A studded leather biker jacket is a black zip jacket with metal studs set into the shoulders, lapels or sleeves. Ours is made in genuine hide with a full lining, a notch lapel and zipped cuffs, and is offered in two material options across sizes XXS to 3XL.

Studs are structural before they are decorative

On a proper biker jacket the studs sit where the garment takes impact, which is the shoulders and the outer sleeve. That is where the detail came from originally, and it is why studded jackets look right when the placement follows the panel lines and wrong when the studs are scattered across the chest for effect. What matters when you are buying is how the studs are set. A stud that is punched through and clenched on the reverse stays put. One that is glued or set into a thin backing will start dropping out within a year, usually from the shoulder first, and a jacket missing three studs looks considerably worse than a jacket with none.

Wearing a studded jacket without it wearing you

The trick is to keep everything else quiet. Plain tee, plain trousers, plain boots. A studded jacket is already the loudest thing in the outfit and anything else with hardware on it starts an argument. It also reads better slightly oversized than tight. A close fitted studded jacket looks like a costume. A relaxed one looks like a jacket you have owned for years.

Fit

Standard biker cut, close through the shoulder with room through the body. Take your usual size. If you want to wear a hoodie underneath, go up one, because the shoulder on a biker jacket is the first place a layer runs out of room.

Care

Wipe the studs dry if the jacket gets wet, since water sitting around the setting is what eventually marks the leather around each one. Condition the hide twice a year, working around the hardware rather than over it. Do not hang it on a narrow hanger, because the weight of the studs pulls the shoulder out of shape faster than a plain jacket does.
