Three ways to make a jacket look worn, and only one is good

The cheapest method is printing. A worn pattern is applied to the surface of a uniform hide. It looks convincing in a photograph, it is identical on every jacket, and it never changes. The second is chemical stripping, where the finish is removed with solvents. It is faster than hand work and it tends to produce a flat, blotchy result with hard edges between light and dark. The third is hand distressing, where the finish is physically worked back. It is slower, it costs more, and it is the only one of the three that produces a surface that keeps developing after you buy it. Ask which method any distressed jacket uses. Most sellers will not tell you, which is usually an answer.

What this means for two jackets in the same box

Because the work is done by hand, two jackets in the same size will not be identical. The shading across the shoulders will differ, and the depth of the tone in the creases will vary. That is worth saying plainly because customers occasionally see it as a fault. It is the opposite. Uniformity across every unit is the signature of a printed finish.

Distressed hides marks, which is a practical advantage

A smooth black leather jacket shows every scratch. A distressed brown one absorbs them, because the surface is already varied and a new mark simply joins the existing pattern. If you are hard on clothing, or you are buying a jacket you intend to wear constantly rather than carefully, distressed is the finish to choose. It is also the more forgiving choice if this is your first leather jacket and you are not yet in the habit of conditioning it.

Fit

Regular with room for a shirt or a light knit. Take your usual size. Distressed leather is often slightly softer than a fully finished hide of the same weight, because the finishing layer has been worked back. It will feel broken in sooner and it moves more freely from the first wearing.

Care, with one thing to avoid

Condition twice a year with a colourless product. Do not use a leather restorer or a recolouring cream on a distressed jacket. Those products are designed to even out a finish, which is precisely what you do not want. They will flatten the variation you paid for and there is no way back once the tone is levelled.
