Mens Red and Black Leather Moto Jacket

This is a panelled moto jacket in red and black leather, built with multiple body sections rather than a single front and back, a full length zip and a stand collar. It is fully lined and runs from XXS to 3XL.

Panelled construction is more work and it shows

A standard leather jacket is cut from a front, a back and two sleeves. A panelled moto jacket is cut from a dozen or more sections, which is why it costs more to make and why it holds a defined shape that a simple jacket does not. The reason it exists is motorcycling. More seams means the jacket can be shaped to the position a rider actually sits in, with the arms forward and the back curved, rather than to a standing figure. Worn off a bike, that shaping reads as structure and it is why these jackets look sharp without a belt or any adjustment.

More seams means more to check

Every seam is a potential failure point, so on a heavily panelled jacket the stitching matters more than on a plain one. Look at where three or more panels meet, usually at the shoulder and under the arm. On a well made jacket those junctions are flat and the seam allowances are trimmed. On a badly made one they bunch into a lump you can feel through the lining, and that lump will rub. It is the single most reliable way to judge a panelled jacket from photographs.

A stand collar changes the whole jacket

This uses a stand collar rather than a folding lapel, which means it closes right up to the throat. That is warmer and it looks more technical, but it is less versatile. A lapel jacket can be worn open and look relaxed. A stand collar jacket worn open just looks unzipped. Fit

Panelled jackets fit closer than plain ones by design, because the shaping is built in. Take your usual size for a close fit over a tee and go up one for anything more. The arms on this cut are usually shaped with a slight forward bend. That is correct and it is not a defect. It means the sleeve hangs slightly bent when the jacket is on a hanger and straightens when you wear it.

Care

Condition twice a year and work the conditioner into the seams as well as the panels. On a jacket with this many seams the stitching line is where dryness starts, and dry thread is what eventually gives way.
