The Indiana Jones leather jacket is a waist length brown leather bomber built on the A2 flight jacket pattern, with a storm flap covering the front zip, four waist pockets and adjustable buckle straps at the back. Ours is made in genuine distressed hide with a quilted lining, in sizes XXS to 3XL.
Where the shape comes from
The pattern is a flight jacket, not a costume design. The A2 was issued to pilots who needed to fly in an open cockpit, so every feature on it solves a problem. The storm flap stops wind coming through the zip teeth. The short body keeps fabric out of the way when you are seated. The pleats across the shoulders let you reach forward without the front hem lifting. It became famous through the films, but it was in production for forty years before that and it will still be in production when the films stop being watched.
That matters when you are buying one. A jacket designed backwards from a still frame usually gets the shoulders wrong, pulling them tight so the wearer looks like they are in fancy dress. A jacket cut from the original pattern sits wide with the seam dropping slightly off the shoulder point, which is what reads as relaxed rather than costumed.
What distressed leather actually means here
The colour on this jacket has been worn back by hand after the hide was finished. You will see lighter tone over the shoulders and forearms and deeper tone settled into the creases. No two pieces come out the same and that is the point.
It is worth knowing the difference before you buy. A printed distress pattern is even, repeatable and flat, and it stays exactly as it arrived. A hand worked finish keeps moving. Two years in, the creases that have set are yours rather than the factory floor manager’s. If you are looking at a distressed jacket online and the colour is perfectly uniform across every photograph, you are looking at a print.
Sizing in practice
Order your normal jacket size. The body has room for a shirt and a mid weight sweater without going up. If you want it close over a tee and you sit between two sizes, take the smaller one, because leather gives roughly half a size across the chest in the first season and never comes back.
The reliable method is to measure a jacket you already own and like, laid flat, armpit seam to armpit seam, then compare that number against ours. Ordering by the size on your shirt label is how most returns start.
What it goes with
Dark denim and brown boots is the obvious pairing and it works because the jacket was cut around it. A cream or oatmeal knit underneath softens it if you would rather not look like you are heading into the field. A plain white oxford and chinos takes it somewhere smarter.
The one combination to skip is black trousers. Brown leather and black fight each other under most lighting and there is no styling trick that fixes it.
Looking after it
Condition it twice a year. Wipe rain off with a dry cloth and let it dry in the room rather than on a radiator. Store it on a broad hanger with air around it, never sealed in plastic, because plastic holds moisture against the hide and that is what causes mould and stiffening. Machine washing will destroy it and no leather cleaner will bring it back.

Garment measurements by size. Measured flat, in inches. These cells stay empty until you send production figures. Publishing a measurement that is wrong causes returns, so I have not guessed.

FAQ
Yes. The outer shell is genuine hide with a distressed finish applied by hand rather than printed. Colour and shading vary slightly between individual jackets because of that, which is normal for aniline leather and not a fault.
It is a bomber built on the A2 flight jacket pattern. Waist length body, storm flap over the zip, four waist pockets, action pleats across the back and adjustable buckle straps at the sides of the back panel.
Your usual jacket size. There is room for a shirt and a sweater underneath. If you want it close over a tee and fall between sizes, take the smaller one, since leather relaxes about half a size across the chest during the first season.
Light rain is fine. Wipe it dry with a soft cloth afterwards and let it dry at room temperature. A long soaking will darken the finish and stiffen the hide, so it is not a substitute for a waterproof coat.
This style is made in distressed brown, which is the colour the pattern was designed around. We run our own production, so email us if you want it in another shade and we will tell you what is possible.
